Pig Applique – FREE crochet pattern

Appliques can be so much fun to make and they can be used on so many things! Crochet appliques can really spice up a boring plain baby-grows and it is perfect to use when you want something unique.
Crochet appliques can be used on a baby blankets, cuddler blankets, burp cloths, or even on a baby-grows.
During this week I wanted to try something new! so I made this cute pig applique pattern. In this blog post I’m going to show you how to crochet this cute pig applique.

Tools and materials you’ll need to make this crochet pig applique…

You’ll want to grab a 3mm / D size crochet hook and two of your favorite cotton yarns that you love to work with. You’ll need a light pink for the body and a darker pink for the hoofs, nose, and ears.
I used some very fine black and white embroidery floss and 2.5mm / C size hook to crochet the eyes and a tapestry needle to add the highlight to the eyes and sew the parts together.

SC: Single crochet

INC: Increase

CH: Chain

TYW: Turn your work

How to crochet your pig applique pattern…

HEAD:

1: MC, 6 SC

2: INC x6 [12]

3: (SC, INC) X6 [18]

4: (2 SC, INC) X6 [24]

5: (3 SC, INC) x6 [30]

6: (4 SC, INC) x6 [36]

7: (5 SC, INC) x6 [42]

8: (6 SC, INC) x6 [48]

9: (7 SC, INC) x 6 [54]

End off the sound with a slip stitch


NOSE:

1: MC, 6 SC

2: INC x6 [12]

3: (SC, INC) X6 [18]

4: (2 SC, INC) X6 [24]

End the nose with a slip stitch, sew the nose on to the lower part of the face.

EYES:

1: MC, 6 SC

2: INC x6 [12]

slip stitch and leave a tail to sew the eyes onto the face just above the nose. use some of the black embroidery thread to make two nostrils for the pig.
Use the white embroidery yarn too add the highlights to the eyes and on the outer corners.


EARS:

Note, leave a long tail before the slip stitch, you’ll use that tail of yarn to sew the ear to the face.

1: Chain 5, Sc in the first stitch next to the hook [4] TYW

2: CH1, SC in next 4 stitches [4] TYW

3: CH1, SC, DEC, SC [3] TYW

4: CH, DEC, SC [2] TYW

5: DEC [1]

End of with a slip stitch, weave in the end.

BODY:

1: MC, 6 SC

2: INC x6 [12]

3: (SC, INC) X6 [18]

4: (2 SC, INC) X6 [24]

5: (3 SC, INC) x6 [30]

6: (4 SC, INC) x6 [36]

7: (5 SC, INC) x6 [42]

8: (6 SC, INC) x6 [48]

End off with a slip stitch, leave a tail of yarn to sew the body to the head.

LEGS:

when you lay your body down, you will notice that it has 6 flat sides. you will be attaching the legs to the bottom sides of the body.

1: slip stitch in the first stitch of the corner and SC in the next 6 stitches [6] TYW

2: Chain 1, SC in next 6 stitches [6]

3: Repeat round 2, x 4 [6]

HOOFS:

FRONT HOOF:

1: MC, 6 SC

2: INC x6 [12]

3: CH1, TYW, SC in next 11 stitches [12]

Slip stitch and leave a tail to sew the front hoofs to the chest of the pig.

BACK HOOFS:

1: MC, 6 SC

2: INC x6 [12]

3: (SC, INC) X6 [18]

4: Ch1, TYW, SC in next 17 stitches [18]

slip stitch and leave a tail to sew the hoofs to the back legs.
